Not For Resale

Indie adult novelties enjoy the benefit of having a healthy secondhand market in which customers may resell toys they have purchased at face value, at a discount, or for rare and desirable toys possibly even at a substantial increase in price. When a toy should not be sold on the secondhand market, it is permanently defaced in such a way as to alert potential buyers. A common means of doing this, and the one most easily understood by customers, is cutting an X into the underside of the toy. There are other, less common but equally permanent methods used such as cutting a circle into the base with a dermal punch or using a permanent marking compound like psycho paint.

Common reasons a toy may need to be marked as Not For Resale include:

  • The toy is a turbo flop and potentially dangerous to use. Without the original listing, secondhand buyers may not know this and may be exposed to potential harm
  • The toy is meant for review or is an example product that should not be shown to the public (or at least not shown yet)
  • They toy received a full refund and the customer is asked to mark it as not for resale as a courtesy rather than requiring the toy be returned or defaced
