Near Clear is a series of silicones made by Smooth-On that are much more translucent than normal silicones. In order to achieve this result, both materials are effectively Min/Maxed with other properties suffering to achieve this clarity.

NC 00-31: Very high foam loft, limiting the amount of silicone that can be degassed in each run. Mild heat yellowing. High heat firmness increase.

NC 00-45: Mild increase in foam loft, somewhat limiting the amount of silicone that can be degassed in each run. Mild heat yellowing. Very poor tear strength until >24 hours of cure time at >70F, causing them to rip off in molds if pulled too soon.

NC 00-31 cubes after being soaked in soapy water or boiled for 24 hours showing changes in color and firmness.

NC is seen as a premium material and an upcharge is applied by many makers to offset the added labor of processing these silicones. The payoff for buyers is the high depth or marbling and beautiful fades that can be achieved with it.
